Overview: We are currently partnering with Ireland’s leading environmental not-for-profit organisation to recruit a hands-on Mechanical Engineer. This is a unique opportunity for an engineer who enjoys a mix of site-based work and strategic input, supporting waste facilities across Ireland. The successful candidate will play a key role in assessing existing infrastructure, identifying improvements, and advising clients on optimising their waste processing operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct on-site assessments of waste processing facilities across Ireland
Evaluate existing mechanical systems, equipment, and operational efficiency
Provide practical, hands-on support and technical recommendations for improvements
Advise clients on upgrades, maintenance strategies, and best practice solutions
Attend and contribute to high-level client meetings, presenting findings and recommendations
Prepare detailed reports on site assessments, risks, and proposed enhancements
Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver tailored solutions
Ensure all recommendations align with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
Requirements:
Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
Strong hands-on experience working with heavy plant, machinery, or industrial systems
Excellent understanding of mechanical processes within industrial or waste environments (preferred but not essential)
Proven ability to assess systems and recommend practical improvements
Strong communication skills with the ability to engage at both site and senior management level
Full, clean driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide
Desirable:
Experience within waste management, recycling, or environmental services
Knowledge of process optimisation or continuous improvement methodologies
