Health & Safety Manager

Osborne are recruiting on behalf of our client for an experienced Health & Safety Manager to join a leading food manufacturing business based in Co. Kildare.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Health & Safety professional to lead the site’s safety strategy, ensuring compliance with all relevant legislation while driving a proactive safety culture across a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining and continuously improving health and safety systems, supporting operational teams and ensuring the highest standards of compliance and employee wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure full compliance with Irish Health & Safety legislation, company standards and customer requirements.
  • Develop, implement and continuously improve site Health & Safety policies, procedures, risk assessments and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Lead the investigation of accidents, incidents and near misses, ensuring root cause analysis is completed and corrective actions are implemented.
  • Manage statutory reporting requirements and maintain accurate Health & Safety records.
  • Monitor unsafe acts and unsafe conditions, identifying trends and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory inspections, customer audits and external Health & Safety assessments.
  • Manage contractor safety, permit-to-work systems and site inductions.
  • Coordinate Health & Safety training programmes, ensuring competency records remain up to date.
  • Oversee emergency preparedness, including fire safety, emergency response procedures, evacuation drills and site emergency teams.
  • Chair Health & Safety meetings and present safety performance reports to senior management.
  • Promote a positive safety culture by coaching, mentoring and supporting managers and employees.
  • Line manage Health & Safety personnel and provide leadership across the wider business.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance workplace safety and operational performance.

Candidate Profile

Essential Requirements

  • Recognised qualification in Occupational Health & Safety (NEBOSH, IOSH, QQI Level 6 or higher, or equivalent).
  • Proven experience in a Health & Safety Management role within a manufacturing, industrial or other high-risk environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Irish Health & Safety legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience developing and implementing Health & Safety management systems.
  • Excellent incident investigation, risk assessment and root cause analysis skills.
  • Strong leadership, communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Excellent organisational skills with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Full, clean driving licence.

Desirable Experience:

  • Previous experience within the food manufacturing, meat processing, FMCG or cold storage sectors.
  • Experience preparing for and managing external audits and regulatory inspections.
  • Knowledge of behavioural safety programmes and continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Kaizen.
  • Experience managing Health & Safety teams and developing staff.
