Technical Coordinator

Role Overview

We are seeking a Technical Coordinator to manage the flow of technical and design information across our client’s construction projects. As our client’s design function is primarily delivered by external consultants, this role is central to ensuring accurate, timely coordination between consultants, our in-house draughtsperson, subcontractors, and site teams.

The successful candidate will oversee document control, consultant coordination, technical submissions, and project close-out documentation, ensuring projects progress efficiently from preconstruction through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

Preconstruction Coordination

  • Coordinate the preparation and submission of Letter of Intent (LOI) documentation.
  • Manage the collection and issue of technical submittals, including construction details, material data, test reports, and related documentation.
  • Coordinate design inputs from external consultants, including fire safety, civil engineering, structural engineering, and other specialist disciplines.
  • Track design deliverables to ensure they align with project programmes.

Design & Consultant Coordination

  • Act as the primary day-to-day contact for external architects, engineers, and specialist consultants.
  • Coordinate communication between consultants, subcontractors, site teams, and internal project stakeholders.
  • Manage the flow of design information, ensuring the latest documentation is issued accurately and on time.
  • Schedule consultant activities and monitor progress through regular meetings and follow-up actions.
  • Maintain visibility of outstanding actions and proactively chase outstanding information.

Internal Design Coordination

  • Work closely with  in-house draughtsperson to coordinate design information for live projects.
  • Ensure internal drawings and documentation are aligned with consultant information and project requirements.

Subcontractor Technical Coordination

  • Issue design information and technical documentation to subcontractors and site teams.
  • Coordinate the collection, review, and tracking of subcontractor technical submittals.
  • Ensure approved technical information is distributed to the relevant project teams.

Project Close-Out

  • Coordinate the preparation of BCAR closing documentation, including:
  • Collecting completion certificates from subcontractors and consultants.
  • Compiling project close-out files.
  • Issuing documentation to the Assigned Certifier.
  • Prepare and coordinate the project Safety File, ensuring all required documentation is complete and accurately recorded.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain structured document control across multiple live projects.
  • Support project managers with technical coordination and administration as required.
  • Assist with continuous improvement of project coordination and document management processes.

Qualifications & Experience

Applicants should hold a qualification in one of the following disciplines:

  • Architectural Technology
  • Construction Management
  • Building Surveying
  • Civil Engineering
  • Structural Engineering

Essential Experience

  • Experience coordinating external consultants, including architects, engineers, and specialist design consultants.
  • Experience managing technical documentation within a structured document control process.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders and competing deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and progress actions without direct management authority.
  • Excellent communication and follow-up skills with strong attention to detail.

Desirable Experience

  • Familiarity with the BCAR (Building Control (Amendment) Regulations) process and the role of the Assigned Certifier.
  • Experience preparing BCAR completion documentation.
  • Experience compiling project Safety Files.
  • Experience within design-and-build or modular construction projects.

Success in this role will be demonstrated by:

  • Technical and design information being issued accurately and on schedule.
  • Consultants and subcontractors consistently meeting deliverables through proactive coordination.
  • Strong communication and collaboration across designers, site teams, and subcontractors.
  • BCAR close-out documentation and Safety Files being complete, accurate, and audit-ready at project completion.
  • Efficient document control processes that minimise delays and reduce project risk.
