Job Title: Mechanical Engineer (Field-Based)
Location: Nationwide (Ireland)
Salary: Competitive

Overview:
We are currently partnering with Ireland’s leading environmental not-for-profit organisation to recruit a hands-on Mechanical Engineer.
This is a unique opportunity for an engineer who enjoys a mix of site-based work and strategic input, supporting waste facilities across Ireland.
The successful candidate will play a key role in assessing existing infrastructure, identifying improvements, and advising clients on optimising their waste processing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct on-site assessments of waste processing facilities across Ireland
  • Evaluate existing mechanical systems, equipment, and operational efficiency
  • Provide practical, hands-on support and technical recommendations for improvements
  • Advise clients on upgrades, maintenance strategies, and best practice solutions
  • Attend and contribute to high-level client meetings, presenting findings and recommendations
  • Prepare detailed reports on site assessments, risks, and proposed enhancements
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver tailored solutions
  • Ensure all recommendations align with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards
  • Requirements:
  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
  • Strong hands-on experience working with heavy plant, machinery, or industrial systems
  • Excellent understanding of mechanical processes within industrial or waste environments (preferred but not essential)
  • Proven ability to assess systems and recommend practical improvements
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to engage at both site and senior management level
  • Full, clean driving licence and willingness to travel nationwide
  • Desirable:
  • Experience within waste management, recycling, or environmental services
  • Knowledge of process optimisation or continuous improvement methodologies
